"Yen" is the fourth track on The End, So Far, as well as the album's third single.[1]
Background[]
On July 19th, the album's full tracklist was leaked on Twitter.[2] And later in the day the band officially announced the album, The End, So Far, along with the music video for the second single; "The Dying Song (Time to Sing)".[3]
On the day of release, the song was accidently made available on Apple Music in Australia and New Zealand at midnight.[4] But roughly twelve hours later, the mistake was fixed and the song was removed,[5] only to be released worldwide twelve hours later.[1]
Two weeks later, starting on August 19th, Slipknot started to tease the single's music video by posting a photo of a stained glass window with the band's logo.[6] Percussionist Michael Pfaff also posted the same photo but with a different angle to his Instagram account.[7] The following day, on the 20th, they posted a short video,[8] and the next day, they posted another short video, this time revealing that the music video would be released on August 22nd.[9][10]
- "'Yen' is actually slang for 'yearning'. It's old school, but I liked the application, because the song is about the yearning you have for the person you're actually with, which is a very distinct and different yearning from the yearning for the people that you don't have. To me, that's why this song is worth singing about; it's about my wife, and she brings things out in me that I never knew existed."
