For other uses of "Windows", see Windows (disambiguation).

"Windows" is the third and final track on Excerpts From Current Project.

Background[]

The ending riff became the chorus riff of "People = Shit" on Iowa. The double kick patterns on this song were also reused in "Welcome" on Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses).

Song Meaning[]

According to Anders in a Q&A done by MFKR1, this song is about collecting the "spiritual essence" of people. Sometimes, that included flesh. Actually, more often than not.[1]

Lyrics[]

[Verse]
She looked so beautiful in her white dress
But with red spots is when she looked best
Skin so soft, her body so warm
Loved her too much to let her come to harm
Skin so pale, her blood so warm
Loved her too much to let her come to harm

I search for the signs, reach for the words
It's come to far, now we begun
One small piece of her, I kept for myself
A lock of her hair lay upon a shelf

What was promised her, I placed in my knife
Every chance I took gave her a better life
Every ounce of strength I tossed into the knife
Once I see your strife gave her a better light

[Bridge]
I've brought the killer forth
My mind's racked with guilt
Bedsheets tied in knots
I feel what she felt
I still can feel, I still can feel
The pain is real, I'm not dead yet

Visions of my hands, lots of torturing
As I slowly die, these windows laugh at me
Di-di-did-it, dot
Di-di-did-it, dot
Di-di-did-it, dot
Di-di-did-it, di-di-did-it, done

[Outro]
I drift away, I drift away, I drift away, I drift away
I drift away (I drift away)
I drift away (I drift away)
I drift away (I drift away)
I drift away (I drift away)

Trivia[]

  • On SlipKnot, Anders slightly changed the lyrics of the second verse of this track.
