Volume 7[1] is the upcoming seventh studio album by American heavy metal band Slipknot. It will also be their last album with Roadrunner.[2]

Background

In March 2021, Corey said that the album could be a concept album[3]

In June 2021, the Diluted Maggot Tumblr page reposted eight pictures of Slipknot in the studio recording the album, originally for OT9 Members. One of these photos include a possible track name, "Heirloom".[4][5]

In July 2021 guitarist Jim Root posted a video to his Instagram story entitled "k, bye". Fans speculated that this meant that Jim was done recording his parts for the album.[6]

On August 26th, 2021, while talking to a fan as part of GalaxyCon, Corey explained that getting Covid-19 interrupted his final vocal sessions for the album.[7]

On October 22nd, 2021, Slipknot revealed there were to live stream Knotfest Los Angeles globally on November 5th.[8] In addition to the live streaming component, Knotfest released special edition merch bundles specific to the Los Angeles event, one of which includes a hoodie with "Secret Artwork" which was revealed on November 5th.[9]

On November 2nd, 2021, Slipknot released a new website, The Chapeltown Rag.com which fans discovered by finding graphics and links on Knotfest.com. The website included, at the time, 6 NFT-like graphics, each of which included a brief sample of new music.[10] And with each graphic included a shard, which when combined made the "Secret Artwork" previously teased on the Knotfest Veeps website.[11] The Next day, on November 3rd, 3 more graphics were released. The official title of the song, "The Chapeltown Rag", was revealed by using Identify Songs Online.[12] The next day, on November 4th, Slipknot officially announced the song, which was released and performed live for the first time at Knotfest Los Angeles, on Friday, November 5th.[13]
