Michael (Mickael) Gordon "Mick" Thomson (B. November 3, 1973) or known by his number 1.7, is the lead guitarist of Slipknot, the nine-man heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa.

Career[1][]

His early career in music started in bands such as Body Pit, which included other members who were to be in Slipknot. He joined Slipknot under a recommendation from Joey Jordison and replaced Craig Jones on guitar, who moved to samples/media. Although credited as being on the album, Mick had nothing to do with (early 1995 release) Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. He also denies the existence of Crowz, saying that "the secret album everyone talks about is just a bunch of leaked demo tapes and stuff."

Aside from Slipknot, he once did a guitar solo for a song by Malevolent Creation.

Personal life[2][]

On October 5th, 2012 he married his longtime girlfriend, Stacey Riley. They have no children (as of now).

Standing at 6 foot 4, Thomson is one of the taller members of Slipknot. However, number 1.4, Jim Root, is taller than Mick, standing at 6 foot 6.

His guitar techniques involve extremely fast alternate strumming and down-picking, and he is often seen as more the 'lead' guitarist of the two (Jim Root is more seen as the 'rhythmic' guitarist).

If you watch interviews with Mick, you can see he has a low voice that sounds perfect for narration or story telling. It isn't high-pitched or grating and he is tolerable to listen to speak.
