"Heirloom" is the ninth track on The End, So Far.
Background[]
In June 2021, the Diluted Maggot Tumblr page reposted eight pictures of Slipknot in the studio recording the album, originally for OT9 Members. One of these photos included the track name, "Heirloom".[1][2]
On July 19th, the album's full tracklist was leaked on Twitter.[3] And later in the day the band officially announced the album, The End, So Far, along with the music video for the second single; "The Dying Song (Time to Sing)".[4]
- "This is from the standpoint of a survivor of domestic abuse, whether it's someone younger or in a relationship. It's about getting through those situations, and wondering if any of that has stuck to them. What are they going to pass on in their life?"
- —Corey Taylor[5]
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
When the beating hearts make the beating start, it means they've found you out
Nothing hurts you more until you can't ignore, it's something to cry about
Now before you know it, the scars begin to show it, no place where you feel safe
So much for getting better, it's just a matter of when to run away
[Pre-Chorus]
A moment never lasts that long
A moment never lasts so long, right now
No matter how the past has gone
You'll always have the past along for a lifetime now
[Chorus]
But you can't run to ground
Oh, you can't run to ground
[Verse 2]
When the hurting stops and the voices drop, it means the guilt kicks in
They say they didn't mean it, they say they're gonna fix it
When they yell, it means they care, aren't you getting it?
Staring daggers, pressing kisses, hiding bruises
When exactly does this feel like love?
Now the question begs, when you're the one who hates
What in the hell are you passing on?
[Pre-Chorus]
A moment never lasts that long
A moment never lasts so long, right now
No matter how the past has gone
You'll always have the past along for a lifetime now
[Chorus]
But you can't run to ground
Oh, you can't run to ground
[Pre-Chorus]
A moment never lasts that long
A moment never lasts so long, right now
No matter how the past has gone
You'll always have to pass a lifetime now
A moment never lasts that long
A moment never lasts so long, right now
No matter how the past has gone
You'll always have the past along, to last a lifetime now
