"Acidic" is the eighth track on The End, So Far.
Background[]
On July 19th, the album's full tracklist was leaked on Twitter.[3] And later in the day the band officially announced the album, The End, So Far, along with the music video for the second single; "The Dying Song (Time to Sing)".[4]
- "'Acidic' is my tip of the hat to one of my biggest influences, which is Acid Bath. This is the 'blues' song that Jay was talking about in certain interviews, but to me it has more of that southern sludge vibe. The demo really made me feel like I was listening to something off [1994's] 'When the Kite String Pops', which is an amazing album, underrated album. It just has this drudge, this low march towards doom and I really wanted to play with the metaphors in the lyrics about that, realizing that we're all heading towards the same fate. Do we embrace it or do we fight against it? It's got one of my favorite lines, which is 'I'm living in a dead man's shoes / stolen coat, not much hope for these Cardiac Blues.' It's my homage to the boys in Acid Bath."
- —Corey Taylor[5]
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
I'm living in a dead man's shoes
Stolen coat, not much hope with these cardiac blues
And I keep forgetting I'm not a god like you
Trivialize a mirror image alive, I won't trouble you, I'm just trouble
Now, now, now, now, now
[Pre-Chorus]
We don't have to leave it alone
We don't even have to be alone
We just have to think we're alone
So everybody leave us alone
[Chorus]
I didn't serve my time because time don't tell
The grim is behind me, I'm always aligned with my selves
Come and lead me own, come and see me on
Come and feed me on, the shit we all be on
[Refrain]
I'm not a god like you
I'm not a god like you
[Verse 2]
I'm running in a dead man's shoes
Sacrilege, broken cartilage, beaten and bruised
And I keep forgetting to forget
The back is always front, the way is always shut
The one is always two, I'm not a god
The back is always front, the way is always shut
The one is always two, I'm not a god like you
[Outro]
I'm living in a dead man's shoes
I'm living in a dead man's shoes
Trivia[]
- Jay Weinberg believes that the song to be the "heaviest blues song on earth,"[1] while Corey Taylor believes the song to be a "prog stoner rock vibe" and be in the realm of Kyuss & Acid Bath, as well as being Taylors homage to the latter band.[2]
- Despite containing explicit lyrics, the song is label as clean on iTunes and Apple Music.[6]
